New Futurama Trailer

It looks fun I like the fact that it appears that Kip and Amy will hook up. There was virtually none of their relationship in Bender's Big Score. While the movies are fun I do hope Comedy Central gets off their duffs and does an actual season of the show. Fans cannot live on straight to DVD movies alone.

Ellen Page To Star As Jane Eyre

The adorable star of Juno and Hard Candy has signed on to play Jane Eyre in upcoming adaption. The BBC film will be produced by the same person who brought us The Other Boleyn Girl. No director has been attached as yet.

Even though I have seen countless versions of Jane Eyre, I am very interested in seeing this one. Ellen Page has usually played modern, wiser than her years type characters, so having her play a mousy 19th century governess will be a challenge.

If Page can nail this role then she will have her choice of roles and not be subjected to typecasting. No word yet on when this film will be released.

Prom Night

I don't know why they refer to this as a remake as 1980s Prom Night. There are virtually no similarities between the two films save for the title.

The plot centers around Donna Keppell, a young teen whose entire family was butchered by a teacher who was obsessed with her. Now three years later, Donna is preparing for her senior prom unaware that the teacher has now escaped and is coming for her.

The film really holds up due to acting of Brittany Snow who plays Donna. She's a good actress and takes a character that could've been annoying and makes you sympathetic to her. Other actors include Jonathan Schaech, Linden Ashby, and a brief appearance by Ming Na.

There is surprisingly little gore in this movie and some character development. However it seems strange to devote such depth into characters (mainly the first two killed) who you know will not be long for this world.

All in all, it's a pretty decent little slasher, not the best but still enjoyable to watch.

Cloverfield

Fair warning: if the Blair Witch made you feel sick to your stomach or you are prone to motion sickness do not watch this film. Cloverfield is an interesting if not visually intense film seen entirely from the point of view of a camcorder.

The film focuses on a going away party for Rob (Michael Stahl-David) who is moving to Japan for a job. Rob and his best friend Beth (Odette Yusman) are estranged due to the two of them having made love a month prior. The two argue and Beth leaves the party early. His best friend Hud is asked to film the party but winds up documenting the chaos that follows.

Soon the building rocks with earthquake-like intensity and the party goers race down to the streets where the Statue Of Liberty's head is thrown in to the streets nearby and a gargantuan creature is seen in the distance.

Despite the inherent danger Rob and his friends face they navigate the city to locate Beth who is trapped in her apartment.

If you can get past the jerky camera work, Clovefield is an awesome, atmospheric, thrillfest that you simply cannot miss a minute of. The actors aren't big Hollywood stars which also lends credibility to realness of the flick. The film also stars Lizzie Caplan who is best known for her role as Janice Ian on Mean Girls.

One Missed Call

For me to say a horror movie is awful is pretty much a death knell for the film. Why you ask? Simple when it comes to horror films my standards are pretty low. I love horror movies from the very good to the very godawful. The awful ones are great because even in their badness it's still entertaining.

One Missed Call is a complete bore with a dull script, absolutely no character development, and a confusing ending. The movie follows Beth Raymond, a young girl who's friends start dropping like flies. Prior to their deaths each of them received a voice mail with a recording of their deaths and the exact time they perish. Beth has received the same message and is desperate to keep this from happening to her. She is joined Det. Jack Andrews whose own sister was the victim of this curse.

The real tragedy is that they Americanized a pretty awesome Japanese film and turned it into the most boring mess. Plus the actor and actresses talents are wasted here. The film stars Shannyn Sossaman as Beth, Ed Burns as Jack, the always talentes Azura Skye in the blink and you'll miss it role of Leeann, and Margaret Cho who is wasted as a co-worker of Jack's.

Steer clear of this film at all costs.
